ResMed AirSense 11 Error Messages and Error Codes

CPAP machines are becoming smarter with each new model released. The ResMed AirSense 11 is no exception. There are several error codes. We compiled a list of the most frequent AirSense 11 and AirCurve 11 error messages. This should give you an idea of potential causes of the failure and how to remedy the issue. It is important to note that any time a part is replaced, the machine needs to be calibrated with the ResMed service software. This is included with all repairs at Altra CPAP repair.

Motor life exceeded, contact care provider
This message will display when you reach 21,900 hours of use (5 years, 12 hours per day). That is the design life of the blower motor and replacement is recommended. When we replace a blower motor, we change the blower hours to 0, which will stop the message from displaying (at least until another 21,900 hours). Changing the blower hours can only be completed through the ResMed computerized service software. This is just another reason why you should use Altra CPAP Repair, a ResMed Authorized Service Center!
High leak detected
This is typically an issue with one of you disposable CPAP supplies such as the humidifier water chamber not being fully inserted, mask not creating a seal, or tubing not connected properly.
Heating Error
This is caused by either a faulter heater plate or main PCA board.
System fault, refer to user guide
This typically precedes one of the following error codes
Error 1
This is a blower motor issue. The blower motor will need to be replaced and unit calibrated to fix this issue.
Error 3
This is a pressure sensor fault. It is possible that the CPAP just needs to be recalibrated, but more times than not, you will need a new main PC board. It will need to be returned to a ResMed Authorized Service Center such as us for corrective action.
Error 4
There are several potential issues causing the error 4 message and potential remedies.
  • Environment is too hot.
    • Ensure device is not covered.
    • Allow device to cool before re-use.
    • Disconnect the power supply then reconnect to restart the device.
  • Blocked filter
    • Replace filter.
    • Allow device to cool down.
    • Disconnect the power supply then reconnect to restart the device.
  • Air tubing blocked
    • Check air tubing and remove any blockages. Press ok to restart therapy.
  • Water in the air tubing
    • Check air tubing and remove any blockages. Press ok to restart therapy.
  • Faulty main PCA board. This is the most likely cause of error 4. The main pc board will need to be replaced.
Error 5
There are several potential issues causing the error code 5.
  • Faulty power supply.
  • Faulty blower motor
  • Faulty main pc board
Error 6
This is typically caused by the blower motor, however, there are some instances where it could be the board. This refers to a motor stall issue with the software. You will need either the blower motor or main PC board replaced.
Error 7
This will need the blower motor replaced.
Error 8
Another blower motor related error. This will need the blower motor replaced.
Error 9
This is related to the main PC board, which will need to be replaced.
Error 10
The flow sensor is stuck. The flow sensor is attached to the main PC board, requiring the whole board to be replaced.
Error 11
The flow sensor is stuck. The flow sensor is attached to the main PC board, requiring the whole board to be replaced.
Error 12
The flow sensor is not relaying information to the board. The flow sensor is attached to the main PC board, requiring the whole board to be replaced.
Error 13
The pressure sensor is not reading properly. This can be caused by the device being out of calibration, the sensor becoming dislodged from its seal, or being faulty. If calibration doesn't correct this problem, then the main PC board will need to be replaced.
Error 14
A pressure sensor issue. This can be caused by the device being out of calibration, the sensor becoming dislodged from its seal, or being faulty. If calibration doesn't correct this problem, then the main PC board will need to be replaced.
Error 15
A pressure sensor issue. This can be caused by the device being out of calibration, the sensor becoming dislodged from its seal, or being faulty. If calibration doesn't correct this problem, then the main PC board will need to be replaced.
Error 17
This is a software data issue. The main PC board will need to be replaced.
Error 18
Data corruption. This may be caused by the device being out of calibration. If calibration doesn't correct this problem, then the main PC board will need to be replaced.
Error 21
This is a board issue. The main pc board will need to be replaced.
Error 23
The pressure sensor is faulty. This requires the main PC board to be replaced.
Error 24
This is a board issue. The main pc board will need to be replaced.

The place is a little tricky to get into the address is on the side of the building as soon as... you pass that you'll see a driveway and down that driveway or two docks the first DOC is for a tile store the second one is for Altra. You have the option of backing in and backing down into their dock or you can turn on the street before them and and then turn into the driveway and come around back and try it from that direction either way it can be tight and challenging I'm going to post a few pictures to give you an idea the staff is very friendlyread more

I had an excellent experience with the people at Altra SP. My CPAP was repaired speedily and... seemingly effectively over the Xmas and New Year period 2023/4. Had to send machine back because it wasn’t fixed right the first time. I asked that they pay... shipping both ways since I had to send it back. The guy refused and said if I wanted my machine returned, then I had to pay return shipping, period. I asked to speak to his supervisor and he told me he didn’t have one. When I told him I would file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, he told me that they don’t belong to the BBB, go ahead. He then sent me a nasty text message telling me you have to pay to belong to the BBB and addressed me as “Big man”He also informed me, “We are the ONLY Certified service center” for these machines. Sent to Repair Authority just for routine service that wanted over $600 to rebuild something... that was working. I got it back and sent it to Altra Servic Professionals they charged me $45 for full diagnostic and routine service. I agree with other posts. I was skeptical that this would end up being money out the window... having to send my machine in and waiting. But I was so happy with their process. I sent my machine in, about 5 days later, I received an email that they received my machine. 2 days later, I got an email explaining what was needed (again, I thought for sure they would say both board and motor would need replacing whether they were both bad or not, but no, they told me it only needed a motor) along with an estimate of 275 I think. I approved via reply. About 5 days later I received my machine back and it is working like new! I never do reviews, but you guys deserve it. Thanks so much.read more

A VERY CLEVER $CAM , it works like this. On their website you fill out a web form specifying... the make, model and the serial number of your equipment. You are then redirected to a UPS site where you print a shipping label. You then package and ship your equipment with the label you printed. Afterwards you receive an email saying that they don't service your make and model. You protest by saying but the web form, I was very accurate! they respond by saying that people are ignorant and they will type anything into it, I tested this by typing complete gibberish and I still received a shipping label. Why is that? Well, for a price of a shipping label they can receive free medical equipment. I pointed that out and Alta said why would the want that? We don't even fix it. Let me ask, why would I want your broken boat, your broken gold chain, your broken Mercedes Benz? Because it has value. Be very cautious with these people, I l already have contacted Florida AG Office on this matter. How many more sick people have fallen into this trap?read more

I use a Res-Med bi-pap machine and put vegetable wash in the water tub by a huge mistake a... year ago...mix-up...and I asked suppliers locally to see if it was ok after telling them what I had done and all said it was ok..checked out..however, I would be very out of breath (extremely) when using and not when I did not use it and it seemed to be causing palpitations for me more so after using and so I had to quit using it for almost a year. I would try off and on with bad results. Finally I found a repair service (one of 3 in the USA I was told) so chose to send to ASP Altra and they confirmed that it had been affected and fixed the problem. I can happily say that I can now use it again and it seems so much better, no huge event changes like before even before I used the wrong water... and I can happily breathe during the day again without getting so out of breath and at night breathe so good again when using! Actually better and it is consistent! My palpitations are gone now except when I forget a pill...They also found the pressure setting too low, as well. They did all of this quickly and very professionally and helpfully. I think probably it was off since I received it and my supply place in MI gave me one that had belonged to someone else I know for a fact because the person at my supply place said there was a mix-up and serial number said my machine belonged to someone else... I will be having them check up on my machine(s) in the future just to make sure they are doing what they are supposed to be doing. Thank you very much ASP Altra!!read more

Within two days of the receipt of my machine they provided a full diagnostic report, estimate for repairs, and upon my written approval an invoice for payment. They replaced the blower motor in my ResMed Aircurve 10 VAUTO at a reasonable price and very... quickly. (I suspect that ResMed designs a limited life into these units.)Upon receipt of the repaired unit, I took it to the local outlet of Apria and asked them to check whether the pressures were correctly set according to the sleep test I provided to Altra. I had them repair my Airsense 10 and I was happy, for a couple days. The machine started... shutting off on its own within a week of spending $500 on a repair. I sent the machine back and they now claim it hit water damage in the few days I used it and so nothing is under warranty. Total bogus. I am having it shippped back to me..AT MY EXPENSE! My cpap was out of warrantee in less than a month. I don’t trust this company now. I wouldn’t use them if I were you.read more

I found Altra CPAP Repair through extensive web search. I had them replace the motor/blower in... my ResMed S9 that had 22,842 hours on it. That motor/blower was nearing it's life's end and was getting louder, a sure sign of the bearings about to go out. For a flat rate, Altra replaced the motor/blower and then a full diagnostic on the ResMed S9 machine and it passed all tests. Much better and more cost effective than trying to replace it! My wife's CPAP needed repair and was out of warranty and not yet eligible for a new CPAP... through Medicare. Our local CPAP Store suggested Altra. I contacted them. They sent me a mailing label. I boxed the machine and took it to the UPS Store. They handled the packaging. Altra paid for the mailing. When Altra got the package they advised me an estimate would be coming. A few days later I got an estimate to fix it. I told them to go ahead and charged teh estimate to my credit card. About a week later, I got an E-mail that the repair was complete and would be sent to me by UPS shortly. A few days later I got it and it is back working fine. All in all a very pleasant experience dealing with Altra.read more

Need to update website - CPAP repair process from the time it left my house to the time it was... returned was almost a month and that was with my requesting updates and approving and paying for the repairs within minutes. If you rely on your CPAP , be aware you are going to be without it for a while. Machine seems to be like new, so I’d say the workmanship is good.read more

ASP did a perfect job repairing my "Cpap" machine. They set all the levels and parameters back... to what they originally were. They tested everything on the machine, and included the readouts in the box. You could not ask for a better repair process.
